Frequently Asked Questions
What is a PAS 24 accreditation?
Secured by Design is the official police initiative that tests the security of doors and windows.
What is a Secured by Design accreditation?
Secured by Design is the official police initiative that tests the security of doors and windows. Although it sounds similar to PAS 24 testing, Secured by Design testing is more vigorous. In order to have a Secured by Design accreditation, a PAS 24 accreditation is required. As a result, all products accredited by Secured by Design are PAS 24 accredited, but not necessarily the other way around.
Another difference between the two testing standards is that once a door or window has achieved PAS 24 accreditation by passing a test, it does not have to do anything else. On the other hand, for a door or window to maintain its Secured by Design accreditation, it must undergo regular re-testing to ensure that the quality of the product has been maintained: with Secured by Design (SBD) operates an accreditation scheme on behalf of the UK police for products or services that have met recognised security standards. Such products or services must be capable of deterring or preventing crime and are known as being of a ‘Police Preferred Specification’.
